Zeus:

  • God of sea and earthquakes

  • Fought alongside them during war with Titans
  • Created the Horse

Hades:

  • God of the underworld
  • Brother of Zeus and Hades
  • Decides where humans and dead souls go in the afterlife
  • Husband of Persephone, whom he kidnapped and forced to be his wife
  • Has a 3 headed dog, Cerberus, to guard any trespassers

Athena:

  • Goddess of Wisdom and War
  • Daughter of Zeus; she sprang from Zeus's head, fully clothed and with armor
  • Guardian of Athens
  • Created olives
  • Punished Arachne by turning her into the very first spider

Ares:

  • God of War
  • Guardian of Sparta
  • Son of Zeus and Hera, who hated him
  • Loved to fight all the time
  • lover of Aphrodite, who was married to Hephaestus

Aphrodite:

  • Goddess of Beauty, Love, and Fertility
  • Born from the sea where Cronus's genitals were thrown
  • Married to Hephaestus, but had many affairs with other beings

Hephaestus:

  • God of Fire, Metal Working, and Stone Masonry
  • made all the weapons for the Gods (blacksmith for the immortals)
  • Married to Aphrodite
  • Was cast out of heaven a bunch of times because of his appearance

Hera:

  • Queen of the Gods
  • Wife and sister of Zeus
  • Goddess of Marriage and Birth
  • Very vengeful and jealous towards the woman that Zeus slept with
  • Her sacred animal is the peacock

Apollo:

  • God of the Sun, Light, Music, Prophecy, Medicine, Poetry, Art, and Archery
  • Son of Zeus and Leto, twin brother of Artemis
  • Hermes created Apollo's lyre
  • One of the most important and beloved gods in Greek mythology

Artemis:

  • Goddess of the Hunt, Archery, Moon, Forest, and Virginity
  • Twin sister of Apollo
  • Sacred animal is a bear
  • Very important goddess to women

Demeter:

  • Goddess of Agriculture and Harvest
  • goddess of the harvest and presides over grains and the fertility of the earth
  • she was also goddess of sacred law and the cycle of life and death
  • Mother of Persephone, who was abducted by Hades to make her his wife
  • Revealed to men how to grow corn

Dionysus:

  • God of Wine and Grape Harvest
  • Supreme deities of the Earth, along with Demeter
  • Hestia gave up her spot on Mount Olympus for Dionysus
  • Very benevolent towards mankind, unlike the other gods
