Death-core is a mash up of death metal and metal-core. Death-core bands often feature breakdowns (a musical element from metal-core) in their songs. They also use death metal guitar riffs and blastbeats (a style of drumming). The term death-core was originated in the mid 90's. In 1996, Nick Terry of Terrorizer magazine wrote: "We're probably going to settle on the term deathcore. . ." while talking about the band Earth Crisis. death-core
